Central reservation fire causes A1(M) delays

A FIRE in the central reservation has caused delays on the A1(M) this morning.

Traffic ground to a halt at around 9am after the blaze broke out.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene.

It happened two miles south of Junction 8, close to Stevenage.

A police spokesman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Long grass has caught fire and there’s smoke on the carriageway.”

The fire was out by 9.20am.
