CCTV costing £30,000 to install will still be erected at a playing fields car park, despite a row about parking charges rumbling on.

A pot of £60,000 was originally set in Welwyn Hatfield Council’s budget for King George V Playing Fields off Beehive Lane in WGC. But half the cash will now be returned after plans to install parking meters were rejected by the council.

The future of the car park; whether it will be left as it is with free parking for all, or whether three-hour limits will be brought in, is still up for discussion.

Work to install the improved lighting and CCTV will begin if funds are released by the council’s cabinet and planning permission is then granted.
