CARS ready for the scrapyard are "desperately needed" at Potters Bar fire station.

Paul Mapp, who is watch commander at the Mutton Lane-based station, told the Potters Bar Edition that if people donated their disused motors then it could help save lives.

He said: "There isn't even one vehicle to train on at the moment. Normally people donate them, but I think the high price of scrap metal is putting them off.

"We really need the cars so that we can practise different types of cutting and other vital training.

"It could save lives."

To donate your vehicle, call 01707 346100 or pop down to the station.
