Carpetright closing 92 stores – are Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar’s at risk?

Carpetright has said it will close 92 stores nationwide as part of a restructuring programme.
The retailer has shops in Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar, but both have avoided the cut.
Despite giving a profit warning last month, the company said it still expected to make only a small underlying pre-tax loss for the year.
The move is expected to result in 300 jobs being lost.
Carpetright’s chief executive Wilf Walsh said: “These tough but necessary actions will enable us to address the burden of a legacy UK property estate consisting of too many poorly located stores on unsustainable rents and are essential if we are to restore our profitability and deliver a successful turnaround.”
