PLANS which would see a police station demolished and replaced with OAP apartments have been submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Council.

The proposal would see WGC’s police station moved across The Campus to Rosanne House, on the corner of Parkway and Bridge Road, and the current station razed to the ground.

The development is set to include 59 extra care flats – 39 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom – which, according to the developers, would mean individuals or couples live in self-contained homes, but have shared facilities for care services and housing support easily accessible.

A spokesman for the developers, McCarthy and Stone, said: “We have undertaken a great deal of research into the architecture of WGC and have consulted with the community.

“The submitted design has evolved to introduce a development that complements the city’s masterplan while offering a building of its era which stands the test of time.”

He added: “We believe this proposal will help satisfy a specific need for older people in WGC.”
