THE Clock Hotel has been sold to a care company and looks set to be developed into a residential home.

New owner Gordon Sanders from Runwood Homes bought the site, which was on sale for 2.5m.

The former Quality Hotel, near the A1(M) at Welwyn, went on the market after parent business the Real Hotel Company went into administration earlier this year.

Runwood Homes, which runs more than 30 care homes, mainly in Hertfordshire and Essex, has been established for 20 years.

A spokeswoman said it was too early to release details of the company's plans for the site.

The freehold of the 96-room building was sold on behalf of BAe Systems Pension Fund.
