A driver who crashed his car into a funeral parlour in Codicote this afternoon has been taken to hospital.

Police and paramedics were called to JJ Burgess & Sons in High Street, Codicote, after a grey Ford Fiesta went through the window just after 2.30pm.

The male driver was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage, but a female passenger was unhurt.

Welwyn Garden City firefighter Andrew Szememiako told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We got called to Codicote about half-past-two.

“There was just one pump that arrived.

“There was a vehicle that had gone through the front of the funeral director. The ambulance arrived just as we arrived.

“There was a male and a female, who both seemed OK.”

“We had to assess the damage. They (the branch) will need some repair work, but there was no structural instability.”

The car has now been recovered.
