A WOMAN tried to lure a puppy into the car she was a passenger in.

Luckily, owner Samantha Donegan managed to get her six-month-old springer spaniel, Finn, back into her grasp.

But now she wants all other dog walkers in the Hatfield Business Park area to stay vigilant after the attempted abduction.

The 35-year-old from Walsingham Close, Hatfield, said: "It was really sad as she actually tried to grab him.

"If it was an old person's dog I'm sure they would have been heartbroken if the woman had succeeded.

"It was a really random attack and people need to be aware and really look out for their dogs."

Husband Sylvester said: "Our dog trusts everybody and sees everyone as a friend.

"Luckily my wife was able to get the puppy before he was whisked away."

The incident took place at about 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5.

The woman who tried to snatch the puppy was white, around 5ft 6in, with dark curly hair and in her late 30s.

Samantha didn't have a chance to get a look at the driver of the car, a dark blue Volvo estate, which sped off towards Coopers Green Lane.

A police spokesman said: "Incidents of this nature are rare but we would advise people to keep their dogs close to them when in a public place."
