Firefighters put out a car fire in Prospect Place, Welwyn.

A fire engine from Stevenage attended the fire just before 5pm on Wednesday, February 10.

The firefighters were on their way back from another call so were closer to the fire than Welwyn Garden City firefighters. They arrived at the scene within five minutes.

Police were called at 4.57pm and closed the road for 15 minutes.

A woman was in the car but was not injured. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereel jets to extinguish the flames. The fire was out by 5.12pm.

The fire was thought to be caused by a mechanical malfunction in the car which destroyed the engine compartment.
