Emergency services have been dealing with a car fire on the A414 this morning.

Two people have been arrested after a car fire on Hatfield Road near Welwyn Garden City this morning.

Motorists were earlier advised to avoid the section of the A414 between Holwell and Cole Green due to the incident, but delays were clearing soon after 10am.

Police were called at 8.06am to reports of a black Peugeot 307 on fire on Hatfield Road.

The road was initially closed, with Hertfordshire County Council Highways notified due to damage to the road surface.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a short time later the fire had been extinguished after the car was found “well alight”.

A Herts Police spokeswoman said: “Two people have been arrested on suspicion of taking without consent. They remain in custody at this time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 112 of 12 December.
