A REDUNDANT bus shelter has been given a new home, leading to savings of nearly £5,500 in the process.

The structure, which had been earmarked for retirement, has been relocated from Hatfield to Cuffley railway station as part of Welwyn Hatfield Council's Community Chest scheme.

A new shelter would have cost the council £6,000 but, by recycling the existing facility, it incurred costs of just £620.

Northaw and Cuffley ward councillor Colin Couch said: "The reused bus shelter is an excellent example of local waste management.

"It's an efficient and effective solution that will provide much needed protection from the elements for Cuffley commuters.
