A TRIO of burglars are being hunted after a broad daylight raid and escape in a getaway car in Datchworth on Thursday.

The burglary took place in Bramfield Road between 3pm and 3.20pm.

Three crooks parked in a bridleway opposite the victim’s house and out of sight of the main road.

They entered the rear garden, forced entry and ransacked the home.

They fled towards Knebworth in a silver Volkswagen Golf, with a taped-over number plate, with loot including a laptop and jewellery.

The burglars were described as three white men, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 11ins tall. One man was wearing a grey hooded jumper, the second was wearing dark clothing and carrying a bag with the word ‘Stihl’ on it and the third was wearing dark clothing and orange gloves.

Detective sergeant Graeme Smith said: “I would be very keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this incident, particularly the offenders making off from the scene in a car which had the number plate concealed.

“If you can help, please call me via the non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.”

A 29-year-old man from Luton has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
