Burglars broke into a Potters Bar supermarket only to flee empty handed when they set off the alarms.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called at 4.15am yesterday (Wednesday, November 23) to reports of an attempted burglary at the Tesco Express store in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar.

“Two offenders, both believed to be male, gained entry to the store by unknown means and attempted to break into the cash registers.

“After triggering an alarm system, both offenders exited the store in the same way before making off in the direction of Mimms Hall Road. Nothing was taken during the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing at this time.”

Those who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time are asked to call Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference J3/16/1451.
