THE roof of a house was destroyed after a fire.

Flames spread on the top of the semi-detached house in The Grove, Brookmans Park in the early hours of this morning.

Six fire crews from Hatfield, Potters Bar, Stevenage and St Albans raced to the scene of the inferno just after 3am.

Two people were in the house at the time but were unhurt.

Peter Hill, officer-in-charge at Hatfield fire station, said: "Crews worked really hard and used quick intervention to save the rest of the house and the adjoining house which had no fire damage."

The cause of the fire was said to be a damaged electrical wire in the loft.
