Police have appealed for witnesses following a suspected arson attack that totally destroyed a large barn in Brookmans Park.

Herts Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 10.03pm following reports of the blaze in Kentish Lane on Thursday, July 12.

A fire service spokesman said a crew from Potters Bar was sent, but the fire was so large that on approach engines from WGC and Hatfield were also mobilised.

In an OWL message, police said a group of youths were spotted running from the scene shortly beforehand.

“The entire stables and its contents (feed etc) were destroyed,” it added, “but thankfully the horses were out grazing and unharmed.

“If you have any information please call 101 and quote reference number 41/17092/18.”

The barn was around 20m by 20m, and the fire service eventually extinguished the blaze by 11.13pm. Anyone with information can also report it to police online.
