A SCHOOL is closed today due to a broken boiler.

Around 1,000 children from Stanborough School in WGC were informed of the news at the end of school yesterday.

A statement from the headteacher Peter Brown said: "It is with regret that I have taken the decision to close the school to staff and students.

"Over the weekend we have had severe boiler failure and, despite efforts, the repairs have not been effective.

"Heating engineers will install a temporary boiler so that the school will be fully heated and back to normal on Wednesday January 23, when all students are expected in school.

"Any students who have public examinations on Tuesday should come into school as normal as these will take place in a separate room which can be heated independently for a small number of students."

He added: "You have my full assurances that everything has been done to keep the school open but regrettably with the overnight temperature forecast to drop to 0ºc I cannot guarantee the health and safety of staff and students in an appropriate learning environment until I am confident that the heating has returned."
