A former pre-school on the Brocket Hall estate could be transformed into a café and small shop if plans get the go ahead.
Michael Hill has applied to Welwyn Hatfield Council for a change of use of the former Brocket Pre-school which lies on the long driveway to Brocket Hall.
The pre-school was built in 1989 and is barely visible from the estate road, according to the planning application.
In the design and access statement, it is noted: “It [the pre-school] was originally run by Lord Brocket, but eventually the trustees formed a company and continued to run the nursery until its closure in 2010.
“The pre-school operated successfully in this building from 1989 until 2010.
“The building has been vacant since 2010.”
The proposal includes the refurbishment of the building, to create a small café/tea room, incorporating a small retail area for the sale of estate produce, including Lord Brocket’s own range of foods and beverages.
