Hatfield dad Carl Wheatley has been found guilty of murdering his daughter Alexa-Marie Quinn.

Wheatley, 31, of Queen Bee Court, Hatfield, had admitted manslaughter, but denied murdering the four-year-old at his home on March 12 last year.

The murderer showed no emotion as the unanimous verdict was delivered.

Judge Andrew Bright QC adjourned the case for sentencing.

The court had heard Alexa-Marie was beaten severely, to the point where fat cells got into her bloodstream and blocked her lungs.

He had only been given custody of her the previous December.

The judge thanked the four women and eight men on the jury for their “obvious care and attention” in reaching their verdict.

He told them: “Doing jury service, in my view anyway, is probably the most important public duty that anybody can ever perform.”
