MOTHER-of-two and former advertising executive with the WHT, Jenny McDougall, has died after a brave fight against cancer.

Jenny, aged 58, was married to Ken and the couple lived in Wheathampstead. She had a son Ross, aged 34, and daughter, Kate, 31.

Kate got married in September having brought forward the date of her wedding because of her mother's illness which had, by that stage, been diagnosed as terminal.

Jenny was born in Deptford but moved to Herts where she attended Borehamwood Grammar School.

She married Ken in 1971.

Jenny began her career as telephone canvasser/receptionist in the classified advertising department of the Herts Advertiser and Welwyn Times in 1972.

She transferred to South Essex Recorders in April 1983 and was promoted to supervisor in the classified department before leaving to pursue new challenges.

She rejoined the WHT team in June 1990 as a senior telephone canvasser before being promoted to the role of sales executive.

In 2004, Jenny became advertising manager of our sister publication Hertfordshire Life, the glossy county magazine.

Jenny was diagnosed with cancer last April and two months later was told that doctors could do no more to save her life. She and Ken went on a last family holiday to the Greek islands in the summer.

Paying tribute, Robyn Bechelet, publisher of Archant Life East, said: "We are all trying to absorb the news of Jenny's death.

"She was one of the longest-serving members of staff in Archant and Jen fought so hard for her magazine Hertfordshire Life.

"As an advertisement manager, she was an example to all of us with her absolute loyalty and positive commitment and focus on doing things right."

She added: "Ever since her terminal cancer was confirmed last year, Jen continued to demonstrate such verve, humour and fighting spirit - beating the doctors' estimates on her chances by several months."

Jenny's funeral is being held at 2pm next Thursday, February 19, at West Herts Crematorium in Garston.
