A BOY thought to be as young as EIGHT was part of a gang attack on two men.

The pair were walking home in the early hours of Saturday when they were confronted by the group of about 10 youths outside the Total garage in Bishops Rise, Hatfield.

Following a verbal altercation, they were assaulted.

One of them, a 22-year-old, sustained serious facial injuries. He was taken to the QE2 Hospital for treatment but released later that day.

The second victim, aged 19, sustained bruising and swelling to his face, but was not hospitalised.

Descriptions of three of the main culprits have been released by police.

The young boy is thought to be aged between eight and 10. He is white, of small build and about 4ft.

A second attacker is white, aged 15 to 18, about 5ft 10in tall and of slim build.

He was clean shaven and had a spotty face.

A third suspect is also white, aged 15 to 18 and slim. He was said to be wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

Pc Craig Whitaker said: "This incident has undoubtedly been very distressing for the victims and has left them with some serious injuries.

"Hatfield is a safe place to live and work and behaviour of this kind will not be tolerated.

"I am therefore appealing for the public's help in tracing those responsible. We know there were people in the area at that time and I am sure somebody would have seen the assault take place."
