The borough council has outlined how it is tackling the number of rats around Hatfield after several pictures of the rodents emerged on social media this week.

A council spokeswoman said the rat population had increased across the country in recent years, largely owing to three consecutive warm winters.

“Our pest control contractor, SDK Environmental Limited, is currently carrying out pest control treatment in Hatfield,” she added.

“This treatment is ongoing, with bait boxes being monitored regularly.

“If residents require pest control for either council owned land or domestic properties then they should contact our pest control service.”
