The police have issued a warning to Welwyn Hatfield residents after many have received calls from a bogus caller pretending to be the police.

Welwyn Hatfield residents signed up to Watch Member received an email last night warning them of a bogus caller.

Many residents have received phone calls from someone saying that they are the police and someone has been arrested with their credit card details.

The email said: “The calls are bogus please do not pass any details over the phone to them even if they ask you to call your bank, you are still speaking to them.

“The police will never ask you for your bank details or passwords.”

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council tweeted last night: “A number of residents have received bogus phone calls today from someone pretending to be a police officer.

“Caller claims someone has been arrested in possession of your credit card details.

“However, this is untrue.

“Do not give anyone your details.”
