Hatfield Food Bank got a bumper donation this week after a local school gathered a ‘reverse advent calendar’ all through November.

Pupils from Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School proudly delivered their boxes of supplies to Gracemead House, which runs the food bank, on December 4.

Starting on November 5, each form had a box to add to daily in the countdown to December, in a ‘backwards’ advent process.

The school hoped to end up with 25 boxes to take down to Gracemead House - one for each form - but the girls went into overdrive and eventually gathered over 50.

“The food bank was overwhelmed,” said deputy head Melissa Jackson, who organised the Christmas project.

“The girls were really enthusiastic about it - they really got behind it. They even decorated the boxes themselves!”

The school is hoping to repeat the project for Christmas in future years.
