Welwyn Hatfield bin collections delayed after break-in at depot

Welwyn Hatfield residents may experience delays to bin collections this week after a break-in at the council’s depot.
Batteries and connectors on 11 waste collection vehicles were stolen last night, which meant a delayed start to collections this morning.
As a result, a Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council spokesperson said crews were unable to make bin collections in some areas and collections may be delayed for the remainder of the week.
Residents who do not have their bins collected on schedule are advised to leave them out for collection the following day.
The spokesperson said: “Replacement parts were found as quickly as possible, but due to the late start of collections today there may be an impact for the remainder of the week as the crews catch up with missed roads.
“We will continue to provide updates on our website and social media of service disruption.”
Anyone who saw anything suspicious at the Tewin Road Depot last night should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101.
