Bid to extend village conservation area

CHANGES are proposed to a boundary that classifies Old Knebworth as an area of “special architectural or historic interest”.

Letters from North Herts District Council have been sent to residents outlining the latest proposals to amend the existing boundaries of the conservation area.

These take into account the landscape setting, the space between buildings, and other factors that create its distinctive quality and interest.

An earlier review recommended expanding the boundary to include a substantial part of Knebworth Park and Gardens not currently within the conservation area.

Following representations received, a revised proposal is now suggested to extend the boundary from Knebworth House in the north down to Nup End in the south.

Cllr Tom Brindley, portfolio holder for planning, transport and enterprise, said: “Knebworth is a lovely part of the district and we need to preserve and enhance its special character and appearance.

“We feel extending the conservation area will protect it for the future and support residents who want to keep their village at its best.
