A beacon will be lit in Welwyn Hatfield to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday

The beacon-lighting ceremony will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, April 21, on a fifth floor balcony at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City.

There will be over 1,000 beacon lightings across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Commonwealth, as part of a national ceremony.

The Prince of Wales has written a short message which will be read out on the evening.

Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Councillor Lynne Sparks, said: “It will be wonderful to see communities up and down the country, and indeed across the world, come together to mark this important milestone in her Majesty’s life.

“I’m very much looking forward to lighting the beacon on behalf of our borough, and we hope residents will join us on the evening to celebrate this historic occasion.”
