A FIRE, which ripped apart a barn, lasted for over 12 hours.

Flames could be seen from across the A414, as the barn, situated on Munns Farm, Cole Green, caught alight at about 3.15pm yesterday (Sunday).

The barn, which measures 50 by 20 metres and contained straw, was left to burn as the fire had become too uncontrollable for the two fire crews from WGC and the crew from Hertford, to save the building.

The fire service remained on the scene throughout the night to keep the flames under control and to prevent the high winds blowing the fire close to the converted barns in which the Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery is run.

No people or animals were injured.

An inspection of the barn took place at 9am this morning.

The cause is not yet known.
