An author is searching for an “exceptionally bright” eight-year-old boy who inspired a character in her latest book after a chance meeting in Hatfield.
Gianna Hartwright was signing copies of her debut novel The Befana Drama in the Galleria last year when a youngster came to speak to her.
He impressed Gianna, who is Italian, by talking about the folklore tale of The Befana – the traditional festive present-bringer in Italy, which inspired her book.
The boy, who was blond, chatted about other myths from around the world including Tomte, who is believed to live under the floorboards in Scandinavian mythology.
Gianna was so interested, she decided to include the character in the book’s sequel, Capriccia’s Conundrum, and plays a small but significant part.
"I was amazed to find he was only eight years old. He was an exceptionally bright boy."
She would now like to present him with a copy of her new book.
Gianna said: “I hope that publicity may help me to find this exceptionally bright boy, so that he can see how he inspired part of my book.
“I was amazed to find he was only eight years old, as he was exceptionally mature and spoke beautifully.
“I would be delighted to send or give him a book and hope he comes forward.”
The two met on Saturday, November 9.
