Cyclists, including former Arsenal players Bob Wilson and David Seaman, descended on Welwyn Garden City on Sunday to raise funds for a Hatfield charity.
This was the first year the Willow Foundation has backed the Hertfordshire 100 cycle ride which took well over 700 fundraisers around the lanes of the county.
There were three routes on offer, 25 miles, 60 miles and the mammoth 100 miles.
Both Bob, the co-founder of the charity, and David took part in the 60-mile course.
Bob said: “What a fantastic atmosphere. There was a real sense of team spirit among the participants along the route.
“I have to say particular thanks to David for taking part and also Willow challenge eventer Richard Davis for riding with us.”
Former England number one David said: “I’ve just taken up cycling, so when Bob asked me to join him along the 60-mile route I was keen to take on the challenge.
“The work that Willow does is so worthwhile and I’m pleased that I’ve been able to support them today.”
Carol Young, challenge events manager at Willow, said: “It’s been really good. We are really pleased and there are lots of smiling faces.
“We have had lots of positive feedback and we expect to reach our target.
“We are aiming for £20,000, which for a first event was a bit ambitious, but people have come up to our desk and given cash on the day which is wonderful.”
And Carol has already hinted at coming back again next year.
She said: “There’s a strong possibility. We will have to see how it all goes but we have really enjoyed being part of this event.”
