Volunteers were out in force to tidy up Welwyn Hatfield.

Litter was banished across the borough over the weekend as residents took up the challenge to tidy their town centres and villages for the Keep Britain Tidy ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign.

Welwyn Hatfield Council organised a number of litter picks ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday this year and about 100 bags of rubbish were collected.

A campaign to Clean Up Hatfield also took place last week and over the weekend with residents, businesses, churches, clubs and schools blitzing their neighbourhoods of trash.

Clean Up Hatfield campaign leader Marian Hurle said: “It’s heartening to see so many local people really do care about the town and are taking action in this way.”
