A Welwyn Garden City shop was robbed this morning.

Two robbers armed with a knife escaped with about £1,300 from a Welwyn Garden City shop this morning.

A man and a female accomplice are said to have threatened a member of staff of the One Stop store in Peartree Lane at about 10.30am before jumping over the counter, grabbing cash from a drawer, and running off.

Manager Brijen Shetsh, who arrived shortly after the heist, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “It was terrible, but the lady [staff member] is fine now. I have just driven her home. They did not touch her. They took the money and ran away.”

Mr Shetsh is only on his second day managing the shop.

The store closed after the robbery, but will reopen later this afternoon.
