POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was fatally hit by a bus in Welwyn Garden City yesterday (Tuesday).

At around 6.40pm, a 60-year-old female pedestrian was hit near the QE2 hospital on Beehive Lane and died as a result of her injuries.

PC Bob Hauxwell, from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit, said: “We believe that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident but who left the scene before speaking to police.

“These include a number of people who were on the bus when the incident occurred and other pedestrians who may have seen what happened.

“I would urge them to get in touch with police as soon as possible as their information might be vital to the investigation.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
