DID you see the seven-vehicle motorway pile-up that left a woman fighting for life in hospital?

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash on the A1(M) just north or junction six at Welwyn.

It took place just after 4pm on Wednesday.

Pc Robert Hauxwell said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, who has not already made contact with the police, to ring the non-emergency number with information, however small."

A 34-year-old woman from Letchworth is in a critical condition at King's College Hospital in London.

Three others - a 64-year-old man, a 56-year-old woman, and a 14-year-old boy all from Oakham in Leicestershire - are in stable conditions in hospital.

They suffered arm and hip injuries.

A 50-year-old man from Stevenage was discharged after treatment.

The vehicles involved were an Asda truck, a blue Ford S-Max, a silver Toyota Avensis, a red Peugeot 206, a blue Ford Mondeo, a silver Volkswagen Golf and a Saunders recovery truck.
