Residents are being encouraged to come and pay their respects for a veteran who is being laid to rest in Hatfield as he has no family.

Alexander Wright Houston Mills is having a council-organised service at The Lawn Cemetery, Southway, at 9am on Friday, August 3, as he has no family.

The Royal British Legion Welwyn Garden City branch is urging veterans and anyone who wishes to pay their respects to attend.

Chairman Dave Forster said: “If you can get down there then please go and show your respect.”

Mr Mills was born in Glasgow on December 17, 1934 and served in The Royal Army Service Corp.
