Footballer Anton Ferdinand scooped the wrong kind of three points after he was caught speeding in Potters Bar.

The Southend defender and brother of former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand was spotted doing 37mph in his Audi on the 30mph stretch of Barnet Road, north of Ashwood Road, on August 17 last year.

Ferdinand, 33, pleaded guilty and was fined £450, along with a £45 victim surcharge and £80 costs.

He also had three points added to his driving licence after being sentenced at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on June 28.

Ferdinand, who lives in Billericay, Essex, came through the West Ham United academy and broke into the first team, before having stints at QPR, Sunderland, Bursaspor, Antalyaspor and Reading.

He also represented England at Under-21 level, making his debut against Ukraine in a 3-1 win at the Riverside Stadium in 2004.
