Aldi is still looking for new recruits ahead of its opening in Welwyn Garden City in a couple of weeks.
Aldi’s new Welwyn Garden City store is creating 40 new jobs and the budget retailer will announce plans for its store launch celebrations in the coming weeks.
It had stated on its website that it would be opening this month, but banners outside the store advertise an opening date of April 5.
The supermarket, which was proud to be crowned Employer of the Year 2017 at the Grocer Gold Awards, still has vacancies to fill.
Aldi is looking for an assistant store manager, deputy store manager, store assistants and an apprentice.
The salary of a store assistant rises to £10.41 after four years, a spokesman for Aldi pointed out.
Assistant store managers can expect to work a five-day, 48-hour week, including weekends and bank holidays.
Salaries for the role begin at £31,300, rising to £38,170, after four years of service.
Deputy store manager roles start from 25 hours per week, with a starting salary of £9.85 per hour, rising to £11.41 per hour, plus an extra £4.00 per hour when responsible for managing the store.
The store’s apprentice vacancy involves a three-year course with a mixture of in-store, practical experience, and theory work.
The scheme provides apprentices with store assistant training in year one and store management training in years two and three,
St Alban’s resident Shajahan Miah has been appointed store manager at the Bessemer Road branch.
Shajahan joined Aldi back in 2014 and has received training and management experience throughout his time with the business.
He said: “We’ve got the makings of a fantastic team in place to help run the store and deliver the excellent customer service our shoppers deserve.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to manage the Welwyn Garden City store.
“We’re really looking forward to getting to know our local shoppers and bringing them some fantastic bargains.”
Aldi is the UK’s fifth largest and claims to be the fastest growing discount supermarket with over 750 stores and over 30,000 employees.
The company says it has more than doubled its market share since 2010.
In the 12 weeks to February 25, Aldi grew sales by 13.9 per cent and has a 7 per cent share of the market (Kantar Worldpanel data).
In 2018 Aldi will open 70 new stores and by 2022 will operate over 1,000 stores.
