Aldi could create up to 50 jobs if its proposal to open a store in Welwyn Garden City is given the go ahead.

The low-cost supermarket wants to open up on the same site as the new Marston’s pub on the corner of Bridge Road East in Bessemer Road.

The German food retailer intends to submit a planning application to Welwyn Hatfield Council before the end of the month.

An Aldi spokesman said: “Aldi is proposing a modest sized neighbourhood store, with a sales area of 1,254sq m.

“The store would create up to 50 new jobs, with applications from local people given priority.”

The proposed new store would have 106 parking spaces.

Aldi has already sent out flyers to those living nearest to the proposed store site to ask for their opinions.
