THE first ever landlord accreditation scheme in Hertfordshire is set to be introduced in Welwyn Hatfield.

Called ‘Partnership Accreditation for Landlords’ (PAL), it is a joint venture between the council and the University of Hertfordshire.

It has been designed in consultation with private landlords who will sign up to a code of standards.

The initiative will be open to all landlords in the borough and will aim to encourage good standards, best practice, and will effectively ‘quality mark’ members.

In return for meeting the “high level” criteria set out in the scheme’s code of standards, members will be endorsed by the council and university.

Support and guidance on issues including often complex Government policy will also be provided. The scheme will be considered by the borough council’s cabinet on November 8.

Councillor Darren Bennett said: “We are delighted to recommend the initiative, which is the first of its kind in Hertfordshire.

“The scheme will actively encourage landlords to raise the standard of privately rented properties available in the borough, as well as attract considerate tenants.”
