A STRETCH of the A1(M) will be shut for 10 nights from tonight (Tuesday) for resurfacing work.

The overnight work will take place on the southbound carriageway between junctions 2, for Welham Green, and 1, for South Mimms.

The motorway will be shut between 10pm and 5.30am Mondays to Thursdays, and 11pm to 7am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Highways Agency spokesman Arvind Patel said: "The road surface on this section of the A1(M) needs to be resurfaced to ensure the road remains in a safe condition.

"The resurfacing work will be carried out overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest."

Diversion signs will be in place during the roadworks.
