A1(M) still subject to delays after serious accident hospitalizes two

Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious accident closed the A1(M) earlier today between Stevenage and Welwyn.

One person has been taken to Lister hospital in Stevenage while another has gone to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway at around 11am between Junction 7 (Stevenage) and Junction 6 (Welwyn) when a car hit a tree.

The road was closed while the air ambulance arrived to take the injured to hospital.

The southbound carriageway remains closed but the northbound has reopened.

Emergency services remain on the scene.
