A COACH on fire led to a closure of the A1(M) in both directions near Digswell.
The southbound carriageway was reopened shortly after police arrived at 12.31pm today (Friday).
But the northbound A1(M) is still closed and firefighters are on the scene trying to extinguish the blaze, which is just between Junctions 5 and 6.
A police spokeswoman said: “It is a bus fire just before Junction 6 northbound.
“Southbound and northbound [carriageways] were closed but southbound has reopened.
“It looks like it was just the bus driver onboard.”
The Highways Agency tweeted: “#A1M Hertfordshire northbound J5-J6 carriageway blocked due to coach fire.
“Delays in the area.”
And Mark Castle (@mark_castle) tweeted the Welwyn Hatfield Times to say: “A1(M) Northbound shut.
“Something on fire adjacent Digswell Hill.”
