The southbound carriageway was reopened shortly after police arrived at 12.31pm today (Friday).

But the northbound A1(M) is still closed and firefighters are on the scene trying to extinguish the blaze, which is just between Junctions 5 and 6.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is a bus fire just before Junction 6 northbound.

“Southbound and northbound [carriageways] were closed but southbound has reopened.
