FOUR women and a child were taken to hospital this afternoon after their car caught fire on a motorway.
Their black Vauxhall Corsa, was alight between junction seven (Stevenage) and six (Welwyn) of the A1(M) after it hit the hard shoulder.
The passengers were taken to the QE2 Hospital, WGC, after the accident which happened at 2.20pm.
Both lanes of the motorway were closed for half-an-hour, causing a traffic standstill.
