Hotel chain Travelodge is looking to establish itself in the heart of Welwyn Garden City, creating 12 jobs.
A major planning application has been drawn up for a change of use for part of Gate House in Fretherne Road from office to hotel use and for infill development at the horseshoe-shaped building.
Developer Epping Investment Holdings Ltd has put forward a proposal to Welwyn Hatfield Council for a 79-room hotel with Travelodge in mind.
The hotel would take up existing floorspace at the first floor and part of the second floor.
The plan concerns premises above 56-66 Howardsgate and 35-43 Fretherne Road.
