A Welwyn Garden City couple who got engaged on their very first date have just celebrated 60 years of happy marriage.

Peter and Rose Eldridge, who came to the town only a few months after their wedding on April 1, 1956, are both pastors of the New Zion Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational church in Cole Green Lane.

Rose told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I don’t know if faith is what brought us together, but it is certainly what has kept us together.”

Peter agreed: “We have managed it by being in love, and trusting God.”
