A social media star has gone viral after questioning: "What has happened to Club Batchwood?"

Influencer Joe Fallon asked his 14,000 followers about the historic venue in a new mini-series, reigniting debate over the city’s nightlife.

In the first installment, Fallon reminisces about his memories of Batchwood Hall likening an evening there to visiting "Batman's house".

He also spoke about the infamous Batchwood bus from the city centre.

Fallon said there was "nowhere" left for young people to go before asking St Albans punters about the city’s nightlife.

Many called for the former nightclub to reopen.

One commenter asked: "Shall we create a crowdfunder to buy batchwood and restore it to its former glory?"

Another wrote: "@stalbanscouncil, serious question. Is there any reason Batchwood couldn’t reopen as a nightclub? Because looking at these comments, there are definitely people who want it back.

"Let’s make it happen!"

For many residents, Batchwood Hall is best remembered as one of Hertfordshire’s best-known nightclubs.

Set in the grounds of the Victorian mansion, the club drew generations of partygoers from across the region and became a St Albans nightlife landmark.

Major acts are believed to have performed at the 19th-century venue, including Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, AJ Tracey, Sean Paul and Tinchy Stryder.

After the club closed, the building became a Covid-19 vaccination centre before plans emerged for a restaurant, hotel and events space.

What is the latest on Batchwood Hall?

St Albans City and District Council has selected a preferred bidder to bring the historic hall back into use.

The scheme would turn the hall into a hospitality destination with a brasserie, bar, hotel rooms, event space and community facilities.

A February 2026 report by the council leader said the council was negotiating lease terms and would announce further details in due course.

Batchwood Hall was due to become a hotel, restaurant and events venue under a long-term lease with Oakman Group PLC.

But the plans stalled and the agreement ended after Oakman Group PLC entered administration in July 2025.

The hall remains unused.
