An award-winning UK pizza chain is targeting a restaurant in Hertfordshire.

Rudy’s Pizza has applied for a licence to sell alcohol at a proposed new location in Chequer Street, St Albans.

Known for bringing a taste of Naples to high streets across the UK, Rudy's Pizza has become one of the country's most recognisable brands.

Established in Manchester in 2015, the business specialises in authentic Neapolitan pizzas, made using traditional methods and cooked in wood-fired ovens.

The eatery is targeting the former FatFace unit at 16 Chequer Street.

It seeks permission for alcohol sales for consumption on and off the premises, from 10am to 11pm daily, with closing at 11.30pm.

Different hours are proposed for New Year’s Eve.

This all but confirms Rudy's were behind plans for a pizza restaurant at 16-18 Chequers Street which were sent to the district council in September.

The proposal placed the restaurant on the ground floor, with toilets and staff areas upstairs.

If it opens, Rudy’s will compete directly with Japes Detroit Pizza, which opened further up the road last November.

Rudy's Pizza has been contacted for further comment.
