Remembrance is the focus of the latest Hatfield Town Talk column
As November begins and the familiar red shape of poppies begin to appear, our thoughts turn to those who served and sacrificed so much on our behalf.
Once again, Hatfield Town Council warmly invites residents to join us for our annual Remembrance service, as our community comes together to pause, reflect and remember.
Our Remembrance service this year will be taking place on Sunday November 8.
As with previous years, the parade will commence at 10:30am from the front of Hatfield House, making its way to Memorial Gardens, where a service of remembrance will begin at 10:50am.
It is always a moving occasion, bringing together civic leaders, councillors, local groups and residents of all ages in shared tribute to the fallen.
We do remind attendees that entrance into the Memorial Garden itself is restricted to invited groups and individuals only.
A speaker system will be in place, as usual, so the service will be audible from outside the walls.
Following the service, Lord and Lady Salisbury will once again kindly be hosting refreshments in the Old Palace.
All are welcome, and it offers a lovely chance to gather and share stories on what is always a very poignant morning.
A few days later, we’ll be gathering once more for our Armistice Day service on Wednesday November 11.
This smaller, quieter service takes place at the Hatfield House War Cemetery, beginning at 11am.
We kindly ask those wishing to attend to arrive by 10:50am, in good time for the start of the services.
Please note that parking at the cemetery itself is very limited.
We would therefore encourage anyone attending to use the car park at St George's Gate, from where it is only a short walk down.
Whether you join us for one service or both, your presence means a great deal.
These moments of remembrance are a chance for our whole town to stand together, to give thanks and to ensure that the sacrifices made on our behalf are never forgotten.
We hope to see you there.
