On this day in 2020, a University of Hertfordshire student won an architecture prize for her innovative design.

Kirana Ariana Gunawan won the Best Narrative prize for her Cyclist’s Transit Roof project.

The award came from Welwyn Garden City-based architects Saunders.

Her project proposed a cycle route across an existing central London building, turning its roof into an attractive headquarters and cycle-through shop.

The design aimed to create a practical focal point and encourage non-cyclists to take up cycling.

It supported Transport for London’s plan to get more people walking or cycling in London.

Annabel Lait of Saunders said: “We were impressed by the very high standard of the work sent through to us by Principal Lecturer, Dr. Erica Liu.

"Kirana’s inventive design not only met the brief, its originality stood out and her thought process was imaginatively represented.”
