Visitors to North Hertfordshire gardens have described the setting as “beautiful” and a “haven”.

Gotha Gardens and Café at Pembroke Farm in Baldock is a countryside house garden that has its own wildlife walk and has earned mass praise for its on-site café.

On Tripadvisor, the gardens have an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5, and are rated the best attraction in Ashwell.

On Google Reviews, Gotha Gardens has a score of 4.6 out of 5 from more than 210 reviews.

The ‘peaceful’ Hertfordshire gardens with a café

Gotha Gardens was established in 1990 when it was transformed from an arable field into a stunning woodland-designed garden, according to the attraction’s website.

The garden is filled with plants that help attract wildlife and pollinate the area, helping it come into full bloom every spring.

There are several areas for visitors to enjoy, with the topiary garden, the rose gardens, a woodland garden and a tea lawn with beds inspired by Gertrude Jekyll.

One of Gotha Gardens' most popular features is its café, serving a range of handmade cakes, artisan sandwiches and lunches.

Guests at the café can enjoy dishes like a black truffle chicken sandwich, the artisan caprese salad, black cod in beurre Blanc, smoked salmon blinis and fagiolo and leeks sandwich.

Cakes on offer include Basque cheesecake, Swiss meringue cake, tarte au citron, tarte au chocolat and Nordic apple cake.

On Sundays, visitors at Gotha Gardens can enjoy brunch from 10am until 4pm, with a set menu costing £32 per person.

The menu includes a welcome drink, a basket of sourdough, Gordal olives, and aged Manchego cheese.

Followed by signature dishes, like chorizo or courgette omelettes, smoked salmon blinis or truffle chicken.

The meal ends with a coffee, a house-made café and includes entry to the garden.

Gotha Gardens has an admission fee, with tickets available on arrival.

From March to October it costs £5, October to March £2.50, and all under 16s go free.

Visitors of Gotha Gardens have showered it with praise, taking to Tripadvisor, one guest said: “It is a real gem, so quiet and peaceful with birds singing, especially Robins.

“We enjoyed sitting in the sunshine enjoying a freshly made chicken truffle oil sourdough sandwich and a tomato and mozzarella salad along with a pot of Earl Grey”.
