Young scouts have put their creativity on display as part of a new community art project in Welwyn Garden City.

Beavers and Cubs from the 6th Welwyn Garden City Scouts have brightened up the hoarding at Sovereign Network Group’s (SNG) "Bloom" development in the town with artwork inspired by butterflies and flowers.

Tracey Lewis, group lead volunteer at the 6th Welwyn Garden City Scout Group, said: "Our Beavers and Cubs were thrilled to be asked to participate in this 'Community Project'.

"The theme of nature for this project is really appropriate for our young people as our Scout Hut has an allotment area and children are involved with planting and growing flowers and vegetables.

"Scouting is about being part of the community and what a fitting way to highlight our Scout Group to the local area."

Each scout created an original design based on the nature theme, which has now been displayed on the hoardings at the site for the public to enjoy.

Kalumba Musambachime, head of sales (London) at SNG, said: "A huge thank you to the 6th WGC Scouts who got involved and submitted a piece of art for our hoarding at Bloom.

"The children channelled the Scouts’ love of nature into designs centred around butterflies and flowers, and the result is a wonderful collection of colourful, characterful artwork that will bring the construction site to life for passers-by.

"Working with a local group such as the Scouts on this project pays tribute to Welwyn Garden City’s proud heritage, as well as the bright future taking shape at the development for those who will call it home."

The "Bloom" development will offer 56 one- and two-bedroom shared ownership properties, designed to be light and spacious, and located close to green spaces and urban amenities.

Homes at Bloom are set to launch this summer.
